Wide Format Printers

A wide format printer is a large-scale printer capable of producing prints wider than standard desktop printers, typically from 24 inches to over 60 inches wide. They are used for banners, signage, posters, vehicle wraps, fine art prints, and more.

Joto offers wide format printers suited for sublimation, dye-sublimation, and aqueous inkjet applications. These printers are designed for businesses producing large-format graphics, soft signage, sportswear decoration, and promotional products.

Wide format sublimation printers use sublimation inks that transfer to polyester fabrics or coated substrates through heat, producing permanent, vibrant results. Aqueous inkjet printers use water-based inks for printing on paper, canvas, or vinyl with or without protective coatings.

Wide format printers can handle a variety of substrates including vinyl, canvas, photo paper, backlit film, fabric, and specialty media. Sublimation-specific wide format printers are designed for printing on transfer paper used in textile decoration.

Wide format printers require significant workspace, both for the printer footprint and for media feeding and output. A dedicated area of at least 6–10 feet in length is typically recommended to allow media to feed and collect properly during printing.

Regular maintenance includes print head cleaning cycles, ink system maintenance, media path cleaning, and periodic print head alignment checks. Consistent use and following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule will extend the life of the printer significantly.

While third-party inks are available, using non-approved inks can void your warranty and may affect print quality or clog print heads. Joto recommends using manufacturer-approved inks to maintain print quality and protect your investment.

Most wide format printers produce resolutions between 720 and 2400 dpi (dots per inch), with higher resolution settings providing finer detail at the cost of slower print speed and higher ink consumption. For most signage and textile applications, 720–1440 dpi produces excellent results.

RIP (Raster Image Processor) software is highly recommended for professional wide format printing. RIP software provides advanced color management, media profiling, and print queue management that significantly improves output quality and consistency compared to standard printer drivers.
