What are Sublimation Printers?

A sublimation printer is designed to transfer artwork to an object in a gas state, using a high-temperature heat press. There are different types of sublimation machines available, including swing away dye sublimation printers, single press sublimation printers, clam press dye sublimation printers, calendar press dye sublimation printers, and more.

How does Sublimation Printer Works?

Dye sublimation printing requires sublimation inks, special transfer paper, a heat press, and a sublimation printer. The process uses heat to turn inks into gas, which fuses with the material, resulting in vibrant, high-quality designs that are less prone to cracking or fading.

What is Sublimation shirt printing?

Sublimation shirt printing is a specific process of printing that first involves printing onto a special sheet of paper, then transferring that image onto another material (usually polyester or a polyester mix).
The ink is then heated until it disintegrates into the fabric.

The process of sublimation shirt printing costs more than other methods, but it lasts longer, and will not crack or peel over time, like other shirt printing methods.

Can you Sublimate onto anything?

For best sublimation results, use polyester materials or items with a special polymer coating, like mugs and coasters. Though sublimation on glass is possible, it requires treated glass and a specialist spray; this method costs more but produces long-lasting, high-quality prints that won't crack or peel.

Can a sublimation printer print white?

Sublimation uses CMYK printing, and there is no combination of any base color ink which is able to produce the color white. You can print onto white materials and any other lighter color for that matter. But, if any of your design has white within it, this will not work with sublimation.

What are the limitations of sublimation?

Aside from the materials that can be used for sublimation, one of the core limitations for sublimation is the colors of any materials. Because sublimation is essentially a dye process, you get the best results when the fabrics are either white or light-colored. If you want to print onto a black shirt or darker materials, then you could be better off using a digital print solution instead.

Can you use a sublimation printer for everyday printing?

Using sublimation ink for regular printing is not recommended due to several factors, including color dullness, cost implications, ink absorption, and accounting considerations

How well does sublimation printing last?

When the fabric is heated, the dyes turn into gas and sublimate, or fuse, into the fabric. As the dye becomes embedded in the actual fibers - it results in a permanent print. This ensures your sublimated design lasts for a lifetime without cracking or peeling over time.
