My R Series finally quit after 18 years. ....no pressure, Graphtec

After 18 years of steady service, my Vinyl Express R Series from 2007 finally reached the end of its cutting career. It had no sensors, no bells or whistles just pure, stubborn reliability which I loved. It could handle 5 mm letters like a champ and worked every time… until the day it didn’t. I’ll genuinely miss it.

Enter the Graphtec CE8000.

Setup was smooth, and physically getting the machine up and running was quick. The learning curve came when I had to shift from no sensors at all to figuring out how to align material with dual sensors. That took some trial and error, but once I got it locked in, the Graphtec started to show its strengths.

In test cuts, I was able to get clean results down to 3 mm lettering (weeding something as annoying as the center of an “A” moves from its own mini boss battle to a OP Boss Battle). The machine operates noticeably quieter than the R Series and seems faster for simple jobs. So far, it cuts cleanly and consistently which is what I loved in my old machine.

That said, time will tell. The R Series earned my trust over nearly two decades. I’m not ready to crown the Graphtec its equal just yet, but it’s off to a promising start. Here’s hoping it’s built for the long haul.

Pros:

Quiet operation

Clean, precise cuts (even at small sizes)

Straightforward setup

Faster on simple projects

Cons:

non really,

I had a Learning curve loading Vinyl using the dual sensor alignment. I didn't know the wheels had to be in specific spots... I figured it out. But.. TBH I turned off the sensors after a few prints so I can print to the very edge of the page.

Too soon to judge long-term reliability

Verdict:
The Graphtec’s looking good out of the docking bay; but it has big boots to fill after my R Series long voyage.
